One difference in Ken Small’s architectural design philosophy from some other architects is that we begin our design concept with a customer’s design concept. This makes every architectural design that comes from SSA Architecture different from every other design. The one caveat to that concept is when we do more then one project for the same client or chain of projects. Then we certainly do make them similar. In the case of this project we did design and the client constructed two Hawaiian restaurant projects in Henderson Nevada. The client was looking for an image that reflected his experience in operating restaurants in Hawaii prior to moving to the Las Vegas area. This “Near the sea” look was unlike any other restaurant that Ken or SSA had done at the time of the 2 restaurant’s construction. (Later we had a different but similar concept at the Poolside Café at Tropicana Laughlin.) The aesthetics of the Hawaiian restaurant were something new for the Henderson area at the time of construction and the restaurant was well received.

This is an early example of a kitchen design by our team. Other restaurants that have followed this one have been with kitchen consultants selected by the client or using SSA’s designs. Currently for most restaurants that we provide architectural services for SSA provides architectural services, kitchen design, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing construction documents. We also offer interior design services. We also typically walk the project through the health department approvals, and the approvals required from other agencies as needed. This allows our clients to have the majority of services needed from us as a single source. If required structural engineering and civil engineering are typically outsources at SSA as they are at other architects that we are aware of.
